Service Description

This 4-week course is for beginners and mixed-level participants to advance their skills in hand building while making gifts for the holidays! Class sessions are held Monday evenings from 6-8pm. Learn a variety of hand building techniques: sculpture, coil building, slab building, pinch pots, surface decoration and texturizing techniques, and glazing (wheel throwing may be available upon request). Projects are chosen based on taught techniques & student interest, tailored to your interests and skill level. Project options include: slab or pinch pot mugs, vases of varying sizes & shapes, candle holders, gnomes, butter dishes, matcha sets, planters, ring dishes, coil bowls, and more. Over four weeks, you can fire up to 7 pieces- practice, experiment, and keep only what you love! The course includes four days of instruction (one day/week, 2 hours/session) and one additional day of open studio time per week where you can practice outside of class (max three hours per session once per week). Location: Kilnfolk Clay Studio, 108 W 6th Street, Vancouver, WA 98660 Secure parking in the Lot #18 Park 'n Go Garage one block away. -Price: $315 per person -Attire: Comfortable clothes that you can squat in and don't mind getting dirty (clay will wash out of your clothes the same way dirt does), short nails are encouraged! -What to bring: Bring a rag & an apron to class with you!! If you miss a session you will be allowed an extra open studio day. Only work done in the studio can be fired in the studio. We encourage you to come in for the extra day of open studio time to work on your pieces. We don't allow clay to be taken out of the studio. Only studio glazes are allowed to be used on pieces. If proper technique is not followed when glazing and there is damage to the kiln, additional cost may apply. Cancellation Policy

For a full refund or free rescheduling, you must notify us 7 days before your scheduled class/activity. Within 7 days of your class there is no refund but you can choose to reschedule within the first five days of that week prior to your class and must pay 20% of the class price to reschedule. There will be NO reschedule/cancellation for any reason within 48 hours of the class, and no refund will be offered. Any refund offered will be subject to a 4% processing fee. We have this policy in place to protect our employees and artists who are booked specifically for this event, and also other customers who might have had a chance to book if the seat was available. Please understand we are a small service based business and lots of planning and supplies go into making these classes possible. Please be aware this is one of the most generous cancellation and rescheduling policies in our industry, and please don't give our staff a hard time for adhering to it- they are just doing their job. Every precaution will be taken to ensure the best possible outcome for every firing. Use of the studio indicates you agree that you will not hold the studio, its volunteers, or any other person associated with the studio responsible for work that is damaged or defective in any way while in the studio at any stage of the process. Please note that all class pieces need to be picked up within 3 months of the class date. It takes an average of 3-4 weeks for pieces to move through the finishing & kiln firing process. After 3 months, pieces will be donated to make room on the studio shelves. While working with clay is relatively safe, there are hazards and risks. These risks include the possibility of injuries or illness related to the use of the studio, materials, or equipment. Use of the studio indicates you agree that you have been informed of the risks and have signed the Kilnfolk waiver.

Attention Students!

If you are signing up for a multi-week or workshop that includes open studio time please click below to create an account on our website. Be sure to use the email that you used to book your class. You then will be able to access the Open Studio Sign Up Page under Memberships. Each open studio session is just a start time and is good for up to 3 hours. Open studio time must be used in one day and cannot be split between multiple days. Multi-Week open studio sessions do not roll over and must be used in the week they are allotted.
