Service Description

Have you ever been curious about the pottery wheel, but didn't know where to start? Come take one for a spin during this 1 hour introductory class! Whether you're a complete clay newbie, or throwing it back to your high school ceramics days, this class is tailored to give you a taste of the wheel at a discounted rate, regardless of your skill level. This wheel teaser class is all about exploring the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel without the pressure of creating a perfect piece. Let go of expectations and embrace the messy fun & wobbly first attempts. At Kilnfolk, we believe everyone is an artist. No room for intimidation here- just a supportive space to let your creativity flow! Your instructor will guide you step-by-step through the process of centering your clay, opening the clay, and pulling up the walls of your piece. A final piece is not included in the price of this class, but if you do end up making something you'd like to keep, an additional $20 can be paid after class for our studio staff to trim, fire, and glaze your piece. Otherwise, your clay will be recycled for our next class to play with! If you fall in love with this experience, we'd recommend taking our 2 Hour Intro to Wheel Class, or signing up for a Multi-Week Class as the next step on your pottery journey. Class Details: -Date & Time: The last Saturday of each month, 10:00-11:00am. As this is a fast class we ask that you arrive at least 5 minutes early to the session so that we can get started on time. -Location: Kilnfolk Clay Studio, 108 W 6th Street, Vancouver WA 98660 -Price: $45 per person -What's Included: A 1 hour guided class focused on learning the basics of throwing on the pottery wheel. -Age recommendation: 12 and up please. We do offer a separate wheel class geared towards families and younger children called Family Wheel on Sunday afternoons from 12:00-1:30pm. -Attire: You will be squatting around a wheel so it's best not to wear short skirts/dresses. Dress comfortably and be prepared to get a little messy. Pro tip: long nails make it very difficult to be successful at the wheel so plan accordingly!
