Service Description

Curious (or maybe nervous!) about firing your own kiln at home? This class is for you! This class is open to all community members and home potters, not just Kilnfolk members and students. Designed specifically for beginner potters, or potters looking to establish a home studio, this hands-on workshop will guide you through the basics of safely and successfully firing your electric kiln — no matter the brand. We'll cover how kilns work, firing schedules, how to load your kiln, safety must-knows, and troubleshooting common issues. Bring your questions, your notebook, and your curiosity! This class is all about building your confidence and setting you up for success as a home potter. This class is focused on clay firing and not glass, although questions are welcome. Our goal for you is to come away from this class with an understanding of how electric kilns work, knowledge of how to load and fire a kiln safely, an increased confidence in troubleshooting common issues, and a good idea of your next steps & clear resources for firing at home. Your instructor, Frank Eager, is an experienced ceramic artist and former high school teacher who spent many years of his career dedicated to nurturing creativity in his students. He has recently relocated to Vancouver, and continues creating & educating in his home studio and collaborating with other artists in the area.
